Justin Thomas officially returned to the professional golf scene on Monday as Atlanta Drive GC took on Boston Common GC in a TGL doubleheader.

Fans have been anxious to see Thomas tee it up in 2026 and he did not disappoint.

Atlanta was in control for most of the evening and as defending champions of TGL that is how they are used to operating.

Here is how each team stacked up for the match (Atlanta Drive GC, Boston Common Golf):

TRIPLES

  • Hole 1 (Flex): Tie
  • Hole 2 (Sterling): Atlanta threw the Hammer and Boston declined it to force the first points of the night
  • Hole 3 (Cenote): Tie
  • Hole 4 (Fore-0-Fore): Another Atlanta win, a common theme in this world
  • Hole 5 (Cliffhanger): Tie
  • Hole 6 (Lavender Lane): Keegan Bradley drained a 10-footer to get Boston on the board
  • Hole 7 (On The Rocks): Tie
  • Hole 8 (Stinger): Chris Gotterup holed out from the fringe and that was enough for the win
  • Hole 9 (Storrowed): Following an Atlanta penalty Boston picked up another win

SINGLES

  • Hole 10 (Bonnie Link): Chris Gotterup showed out strong again and took the first
  • Hole 11 (Cut The Sails): Tie
  • Hole 12 (Set In Stone): Tie
  • Hole 13 (Alpine): Chris Gotterup… again
  • Hole 14 (The Last Toll): Tie
  • Hole 15 (Stone & Steeple): Tie

FINAL: ATLANTA WINS 5-2

As noted it was the first match of a doubleheader for Atlanta so it surely put them in a good mood. Chris Gotterup did the heavy lifting, particularly given that he was squaring off against Rory McIlroy in singles.

While we are on the subject of TGL… this 40-second hourglass (which has bunker sand from the inaugural season last year) on their website is a great gift for a fan of the league.

This is the exact length of time that the TGL shot clock is so it is a great talking point, but it is also a great timer! You can literally put someone on the clock with the visual cue.

We will see what the second match has in store.
