The rough has been a big talking point at TPC Sawgrass this week.

Two days out of the Players Championship beginning one of the biggest stories encircling Ponte Vedra is how thick the rough is.

It feels fairly easy to connect dots here.

The Players, really the PGA Tour, has made a big push towards the idea of becoming a major championship. Discussions and debates around that run rampant, but growing the rough like this feels like a huge step in establishing the challenges that come with golf’s four stiffest tests.

Is this the first step in that direction? Is Brian Rolapp hoping for those kinds of results this week?

As noted, it is difficult to not jump to that conclusion. Rolapp is set to speak on Wednesday in a press conference that will surely answer a lot of these types of questions.

For now… prepare for heavy rough all week long. It will be epic.
