FARMINGDALE, NEW YORK - SEPTEMBER 25: Vice captain Jim Furyk of Team United States yells out while at the 17th hole tee box during a practice round prior to the Ryder Cup 2025 at Black Course at Bethpage State Park Golf Course on September 25, 2025 in Farmingdale, New York. Jim Furyk is assembling his squad.

The United States Ryder Cup Captain was interviewed Saturday on NBC just before the Kentucky Derby. Furyk happened to break some news during his conversation with Mike Tirico… Stewart Cink and Justin Leonard will be joining him at Adare Manor on behalf of the Red, White, and Blue. Cink and Leonard will be Vice Captains.

This was a notable interview as it marked Furyk’s first as the United States Ryder Cup Captain, his second time manning the post. The Ryder Cup is an NBC property as far as United States broadcast television is concerned so there is some symmetry happening here.

There is no question that Cink and Leonard are among the people most qualified to join Furyk in Ireland a year and a half from now. The Americans will face a lot of doubt along the way, it doesn’t help that Europe and Captain Luke Donald have won the Ryder Cup in back to back playings, but perhaps steady leadership at the top will quiet some massees.

Congratulations to Stewart Cink and Justin Leonard on their appointments.
