Si Woo Kim did everything but win at the CJ CUP

Even though he didn’t win, Si Woo Kim had an incredible week at the CJ CUP

Si Woo Kim should have won the CJ CUP.

To be clear, Wyndham Clark actually won the CJ CUP, but you can make a very strong argument that Si Woo Kim should have walked away with the victory at TPC Craig Ranch. That’s golf, though.

In reality, Si Woo Kim finished solo second in McKinney at 27-under, 3 shots back of Clark. Part of what led to this reality was that Wyndham shot a 60 on Sunday. Amazingly though, Si Woo shot a 60 on Friday!

These were just the third and fourth 60s to happen on the PGA Tour this season (Blades Brown, R2/Nicklaus Tournament Course and Andrew Putnam, R2/La Quinta CC… both at the American Express) which makes it particularly brutal for Si Woo that he wasn’t able to cash in. It wasn’t like he just had a particularly impressive round, though.

Consider that Si Woo made 33 birdies all week throughout the event. He was 5 clear of Wyndham Clark in that regard. Heck, he was 2 shy of the 35 that Hideki Matsuyama had at the Sentry last season which was the most in a 72-hole event on record for the PGA Tour.

Golf is a game of inches and for the most part Si Woo Kim had the ones that he needed all week in McKinney. Unfortunately he didn’t have them all.

He is certainly trending in the right direction, though.
