We all have that one club.

When you are in a bind, you go back to it. Old reliable. It has saved you before and it will save you again.

This phenomenon exists in all sports to be clear. There are three-point shooters who are called upon to get a basket in final seconds. Closers are brought in to keep men on base and from scoring. Specialists are given the ball to get it across the goal line.

It is that last line that is notable and that takes things full circle. Jerome Bettis was that go-to option for the Pittsburgh Steelers across his Hall of Fame career, and every Steelers fan trusted him in those critical moments.

Jerome recently sat down with SB Nation to discuss the upcoming American Century Championship, he is rooting for John Smoltz to get it done, and I was curious which of the clubs in his own bag is his own Jerome Bettis. What is the club that he trusts against all odds?

For Jerome it is his 58 degree wedge. He said he knows he can get it high or low, he can use it anywhere around the greens… what a comforting thing to have a club that he can depend on like that.

Tournament prize money for the ACC is up to $750,000 total with a $150,000 first prize, but importantly the tournament has at the same time raised over $8 million for regional and national charities. American Century Investments donates 40% of its profits to the Stowers Institute for Medical Research and activates fundraising at tournament to drive direct donations to Stowers each year.

Perhaps Jerome has a shot out in Tahoe.

Best of luck to him!
