It’s raining at Ryder Cup 2010 in Celtic Manor … a lot. And it’s not showing signs of stopping, and given how much water has been dumped on the course, it may be even longer before it is playable.
Ryder Cup 2010: Rain Delay Halts Play On Friday With Europe Holding Fourball Advantage
Play was halted just two hours after the Ryder Cup officially teed off with standing water around the course. The rain was falling so hard, that before play was stopped, players were allowed to mark and clean balls in the fairway. An update on the situation is expected at 2 p.m. local time (9 a.m. EDT).
The very early Ryder Cup leaderboard has Europe with a 3-1 advantage over the Americans. Mickelson/Johnson are down 2 strokes to Westwood/Kaymer through 5 holes and the teams of Cink/Kuchar and Stricker/Woods are down 1 through 4 and 3 holes, respectively. The lone match the U.S. is leading is Watson/Overton vs. Donald/Harrington, in which the American team is up 2 though 2.
