The Final Round Of The FedEx Cup Is Happening Now, But You’ll See It Later

The final round of the final tournament in the FedEx Cup is happening right now, as players start early at The Tour Championship to beat weather in Atlanta. You probably won’t see it until sometime this afternoon, if you flick away from some NFL games, and what you do see will be tape-delayed. This is about all you need to know about how far golf has fallen.

↵Devil Ball Golf’s Shane Bacon is incensed about the decision by NBC, and rightfully so: this is just one last slap in the face to golf fans, especially the diehards whose interest does not wane or wax with or without Tiger Woods. It’s also a bit more salt in the wound for the PGA Tour, which introduced the FedEx Cup to spark interest in non-major golf and has seen it trounced every fall of its existence. ↵

There’s probably more the Tour can do to tweak the Cup (Bacon suggests ending tournaments on Mondays), but it may be best to let the multimillion-dollar boondoggle die. No Tiger, and the casual fans disappear; one bad weather day, and the diehards are fuming. It’s a no-win situation for the Tour at this point, and I can’t imagine FedEx is married to the yearly fiasco, either.
