Sung-hoon Kang, Alex Prugh Atop Farmers Insurance Open Leaderboard After Round One

Round one of the 2011 Farmers Insurance Open at Torrey Pines is in the books, with South Korea’s Sung-hoon Kang holding the early lead at 8-under. He birdied on six holes, eagled on the par-five hole 14, and shot for par on every other hole. This is his second-ever PGA Tournament event; he missed the cut at the Sony Open earlier this month.

Trailing him by one stroke are Americans Alex Prugh and Rickie Fowler, with Chris Kirk close behind at 6-under. The crowd at 5-under includes Phil Mickelson and John Daly, with Anthony Kim and Rory Sabbatini among the 4-under pileup. Tiger Woods is the most noteworthy name at 3-under, though he’s joined by Stewart Cink and Camilo Villegas.

David Duval and Bubba Watson are among the bigger names who’ve shot slightly better than par, while Vijay Singh has broken even and Davis Love III is 1-over at the moment.
