Tiger Woods Struggles On Front Nine In Final Round Of Farmers Insurance Open At Torrey Pines

Tiger Woods will not be opening his 2011 season with a win.

His final round at the 2011 Farmers Insurance Open didn’t get the jump start it needed on the front nine for Tiger to have any chance of catching Phil Mickelson and the rest of the leaders.

Woods went out in one-over 37, dropping his score for the tournament from four under to three under. That actually increased Woods’ eight-shot deficit entering the final round, and would have been a tough task for the old Woods to overcome.

That’s because Tiger’s never won a PGA TOUR event after trailing by six or more shots entering the final round, a streak that has led many to question his ability to do anything but come from ahead in tournaments.

Woods bogeyed the par 4 fourth and sixth holes on the Torrey Pines course, and birdied the par 3 eighth. He played the two par 5s, traditionally his strength because of his length off the tee and exceptional iron play, in even par.
