Phil Mickelson Climbs Leaderboard, Ties Bill Haas At Farmers Insurance Open

Bill Haas entered Round 3 of the Farmers Insurance Open with the lead. On Saturday at Torrey Pines, Phil Mickelson rallied to take a share of it.

Mickelson continued to play the same consistently solid golf he displayed in the first two rounds of the tournament. On the fourth hole, he recorded only his fourth bogey of the tournament, but he more than compensated for it with birdies on the first, third, seventh, ninth, abnd 16th holes.

His 4-under day moved him into a tie for the Farmers Insurance Open lead with Bill Haas, who shot 1-under in Round 3. The two stand at 12-under, with Hunter Mahan and Bubba Watson sitting one stroke behind. Mickelson is looking for his first PGA Tour win since the 2010 Masters, while Haas is on the hunt for his third career win on the circuit. Noted golf enthusiast Tiger Woods, meanwhile, has faded from contention.

Here is how the top of the leaderboard looks at the conclusion of Round 3:

T1. Phil Mickelson (-12)
T1. Bill Haas
T3. Hunter Mahan (-11)
T3. Bubba Watson
5. Anthony Kim (-10)
6. Jhonattan Vegas (-9)
