Woods moved to one-under-par 141 after two rounds and will easily make the cut. He walked off the course seven strokes behind leader Paul Casey, who fired a seven-under 64 to finish 36 holes at eight-under-par 134.
In just his second round since missing the cut at the PGA Championship, Woods got going with a four-foot birdie putt on the 11th at CordeValle Golf Club.
Woods gave that stroke back on No. 13 as he went fairway bunker to greenside bunker and failed to save par from six feet out. He caught fire right after that though.
At the 14th, Woods poured in a 23-foot birdie effort and he came right back with an eight-foot birdie putt on 15. Woods made it three in a row as he tapped in a three-footer on No. 16 to move to minus-one.
Woods stumbled to consecutive bogeys at the 18th and first to slide back to plus-one. He sank a seven-foot birdie effort on the second to get one shot back. After six straight pars, Woods two-putted for birdie on the par-five ninth to end at minus-one.
“My feels are coming back. All the balls are pin high, which is a very good sign,” Woods said in a television interview.
Woods’ 68 was his lowest round since he opened with a 68 at the WGC - Bridgestone Invitational and it was just his second sub-par round in his last seven rounds including the WGC and the PGA Championship.
