2011 Presidents Cup Pairings: Struggling Tiger Woods-Steve Striker Pairing Broken Up On Day 2

The first day of the 2011 Presidents Cup went well for the United States, as they won three matches and halved two, only losing one. That one loss came from Tiger Woods and Steve Stricker, who were thoroughly dominated by Adam Scott and K.J. Choi in a 7&6 loss. Unsurprisingly, the United States has decided to break up that pairing on Day 2.

Dustin Johnson has been paired with Tiger Woods, with his Day 1 partner Matt Kuchar partnering Stricker on Day 2. The other four pairings remain unchanged. The international team has opted for a different strategy, keeping only two of their pairings intact. Aaron Baddeley and Jason Day stay a pair, as do Ernie Els and Ryo Ishikawa. The latter pairing lost 4&2 on Day 1, so they are presumably being kept together for the comedy that is the Big Easy walking down the fairway next to a man half his size in Ishikawa. Here are all of the pairings and matches.

Match 1: Simpson/Watson (USA) vs. Els/Ishikawa (International)
Match 2: Johnson/Woods (USA) vs. Baddeley/Day (International)
Match 3: Furyk/Mickelson (USA) vs. Kim/Scott (International)
Match 4: Haas/Watney (USA) vs. Choi/Ogilvy (International)
Match 5: Kuchar/Stricker (USA) vs. Allenby/Yang (International)
Match 6: Mahan/Toms (USA) vs. Goosen/Schwartzel (International)

The matches on Thursday night in the USA, Friday afternoon in Australia are four-ball matches.

The 2011 Presidents Cup resumes on Friday in Australia, or late Thursday night here in the US, with another wave of matches. For more on the Presidents Cup, visit Waggle Room and SB Nation’s Golf hub.
