The United States are still in a good position going into Day 3 of the 2011 Presidents Cup, thanks to a split on Friday (or Thursday, in the USA). That kept their lead at a two-point margin, giving them a 7-5 lead heading into the third day of play. That split represented a positive move forward for the International team, who only won one match on Day 1. Both teams were relatively happy with their groups on Day 2 and will make two changes, with both teams keeping three of their teams intact. The morning session features five foursomes. The afternoon session will feature five four-ball matches. Here are the morning session pairings.
2011 Presidents Cup Pairings: Both Teams Make Two Changes For Day 3 Morning Session
Match 1: Watson/Simpson (USA) vs. Allenby/Ogilvy (International)
Match 2: Haas/Kuchar (USA) vs. Els/Ishikawa (International)
Match 3: Mahan/Toms (USA) vs. Goosen/Schwartzel (International)
Match 4: Woods/Johnson (USA) vs. Scott/Choi (International)
Match 5: Furyk/Mickelson (USA) vs. Baddeley/Day (International)
The pairing of Nick Watney and Steve Stricker sits out the morning session for the United States, while the International team rests K.T. Kim and Y.E. Yang. Both teams must play these pairings in the afternoon session and sit one of the pairings that played in the morning session. Coverage of the morning session begins at 3 P.M. ET on the Golf Channel in the USA.
The 2011 Presidents Cup resumes on Saturday in Australia, or Friday afternoon here in the US, with another wave of matches. For more on the Presidents Cup, visit Waggle Room and SB Nation’s Golf hub.
