Presidents Cup 2011 Score Update: Tiger Woods Wins, USA Dominates Foursomes

The USA nearly swept the Saturday foursome matches at the 2011 Presidents Cup, coming away with four out of five wins in the morning session. Saturday features two waves of matches, the first of which are over and the second of which are just underway at Royal Melbourne Golf Club in Australia. The afternoon matches will be of the best ball variety after the morning’s foursome, or alternate shot, matches.

Tiger Woods got his first win of the Presidents Cup, pairing with Dustin Johnson to down Adam Scott and K.J. Choi, 3&2. Webb Simpson and Bubba Watson were 3&2 winners, Hunter Mahan and David Toms won 5&4, and Phil Mickelson and Jim Furyk won 2&1. The USA’s only loss of the morning came at the hands of Ernie Els and Ryo Ishikawa, who were 1-up winners.

The action is already underway in the four-ball matches, with two groups on the course. Woods will remain paired with Johnson in the afternoon matches. The USA holds an 11-6 lead over the International team after three rounds of matches.

The 2011 Presidents Cup resumes on Saturday in Australia, or Friday afternoon here in the US, with another wave of matches. For more on the Presidents Cup, visit Waggle Room and SB Nation’s Golf hub.
