Michael Jordan Out As 2011 Presidents Cup Assistant Captain

The United States’ 2011 Presidents Cup team lost a major contributor Tuesday, when Michael Jordan, who has never played professional golf, announced that he would have to withdraw from his duties as the team’s assistant captain due to NBA labor issues.

Jordan, a part owner of the Charlotte Bobcats, felt it necessary to stay inside the U.S. while the NBA lockout persists — you know, instead of running off to a foreign country to watch other people play golf.

“With the NBA labor situation unsettled, as the majority owner of the Charlotte Bobcats, I feel it is necessary that I remain in the country,” Jordan said in a statement.Presidents Cup captain Fred Couples has replaced Jordan with John Cook, who has actually played on the PGA Tour and is probably significantly better at golf than Michael Jordan. The 2011 Presidents Cup takes place at the Royal Melbourne Golf Club in Australia from November 17 to November 20.
