WGC HSBC Champions 2011 Preview: Rory McIlroy, K.J. Choi Favorites At Sheshan
The Wolf Golf Championships’ HSBC Champions tournament takes place in Shanghai, China, this week. Rory McIlroy and K.J. Choi are the favorites for the annual event.
Italian golfer Francesco Molinari led last year’s even wire-to-wire, but according to Rob Bolton’s power rankings for this year’s event, McIlroy and Choi should be able to separate themselves from the pack this year. McIlory, according to Bolton, is the top golfer in Shanghai this week.
The man to beat arrives in red-hot form. Prior to his playoff win at the Shanghai Masters, he strung together four consecutive top-three finishes. Posted a solo fifth here last year, closing out with a 67 that featured seven birdies.
The experts on PGATour.com’s panel, however, ranked Choi as their pick to win the event after performing admirably last week.
Throughout his career, the reigning Players’ champion has always performed his best against the stiffest competition. And coming off a T7 in Shanghai last week, the Korean is in good form.
