Bubba Watson took to the tee box on Friday morning in a first-place tie with Matt Jones at the Zurich Classic. But midway through the second round, that PGA Tour leaderboard at TPC Louisiana is in the midst of a serious shakeup.
Zurich Classic Leaderboard: Bubba Watson In Contention, Josh Teater On A Tear
Enter Josh Teater, who while putting together a torrid second round at the Zurich Classic is getting the “Who?” treatment on Twitter. It’s a fair question; Teater is 32 years old but has played in only 45 events, making 25 cuts, and he’s never won a PGA Tour event. The Kentucky native’s best tournament showing came earlier this month at the Shell Houston Open, where he finished in a tie for 19th place, shooting 8-under par.
Meanwhile, on Friday at TPC Louisiana, Teater was 8-under through 16 holes, taking him to 11-under for the weekend and a stroke ahead of Watson for the lead. Watson, who shot 66 on Thursday for 6-under and a share of the lead with Jones, had another hole to play on Friday and, at -4, was just a smidgen behind his pace from the first round.
Jones, however, is in the process of reverting to the form he’d previously displayed this season. He won’t miss the cut, as he had in the previous two tournament he’d participated in, but Jones is shooting even par so far on Friday, dropping him into a tie for seventh with Tommy Gainey. He still sits ahead of Luke Donald, who followed a 58 on Thursday with a 71 on Friday.
