Tiger Woods’ Masters Resurgence Could End 17-Tournament Drought

Tiger Woods’ streak of 17 official PGA tournaments without a win would not be particularly notable if we were talking about anyone but Tiger Woods. Especially disconcerting for the noted golf enthusiast and his fans: the vast majority of these results weren’t particularly close.

He hasn’t placed better than 10th in any of his last 11 tournaments. Finishing in 28th or 33rd hasn’t been out of the ordinary. As far as the leaderboards have been concerned, he’s been a middle-of-the-pack guy a lot of the time.

Since winning the BMW Championship on September 13th, 2009, here are the results from all of Tiger’s appearances. Deep breath:

9/27/09, The Tour Championship, 2
4/11/10, The Masters, T-4
5/2/10, Wells Fargo Championship, cut
5/9/10, The Players Championship, withdrew
6/6/10, Memorial Tournament, T-19
6/20/10, U.S. Open, T-4
7/4/10, AT&T National, t-46
7/18/10, British Open, T-23
8/8/10, WGC-Bridgestone, T-78
8/15/10, PGA Championship, T-28
8/29/10, The Barclays, T-12
9/6/10, Deutsche Bank Championship, T-11
9/12/10, BMW Championship: t-15
1/30/11, Farmers Insurance Open: T-44
2/27/11, WGC-Accenture: T-33
3/13/11, WGC-Cadillac: T-10
3/27/11, Arnold Palmer Invitational: t-24

The course in Augusta has been good to Tiger in the past. The likes of Jason Day and Rory McIlroy will test his recent tendency to regress into the middle of the pack in the third rounds of tournaments, but on Saturday, Tiger has shown the sort of form he’s rarely, if ever, displayed during his losing streak. The drought has to end sometime, right?
