Players Championship 2011 Leaderboard: Angel Cabrera Making Great Strides Early

On Saturday morning at TPC Sawgrass, the players at the top of the Players Championship leaderboard have yet to tee off. Angel Cabrera has cracked into the top 20, though, with a terrific start to his third round.

Cabrera, who is on the 11th hole at the moment, is 5-under for the day so far. His showing at the tournament has featured a couple of bright spots, including three consecutive birdies in the first round and an eagle in the second round, but bogeys kept him at par entering Saturday’s play.

The 41-year-old Argentine is now in a tie for 17th, and sits five strokes behind tournament leader David Toms. If Cabrera can find a way to win, it would make for the third PGA Tour win of his career. In April, he was a serious contender to win the Masters before ultimately settling for seventh place.
