President Obama, House Speaker John Boehner Hit Links For ‘Golf Summit’

With the 2011 U.S. Open at Maryland’s Congressional Golf Club, it’s been very easy for media members looking for angles beyond the course to connect the sport with the little white ball and the highest office in America.

And unless you managed to avoid the features on golf and the Presidency that both NBC and ESPN ran on Saturday, you were probably also aware that President Barack Obama and Speaker of the House John Boehner were having a “golf summit” to talk over some of the issues facing the country in a slightly more casual setting than Capitol Hill’s hallowed halls.

But the important question is simple: who won?

Well, Sports Business Journal’s John Ourand tweets that Obama and Boehner both did. That’s because they, playing together as a bipartisan pairing, beat Vice President Joe Biden and Ohio Governor John Kasich on the 18th hole, winning $2 each.

I, for one, am stunned that elected officials would wager on sports.
