Tiger Woods has been on the comeback trail for over a year now, but along the way, the onetime marketing juggernaut hasn’t picked up any new endorsement deals. That is, until this week, when he signed on to become the pitchman for a Japanese anesthetic cream. From the AP:
Tiger Woods’ New Endorsement Deal Will Make You Kinda Sad
Tiger Woods has been hired as a pitchman for a Japanese heat rub used to relieve muscle and joint pain.
“Kowa Company Ltd. is pleased to announce the use of Tiger Woods as the image character of Antiphlogistic Analgetic Vantelin Kowa series,” the Nagoya-based company said in a press release.
Yikes. I’m sure he’s getting paid a ton of money, and hey, it’s not a fever blister cream. But that’s still quite a fall from pitching for Gatorade and Lexus. A reality check, anyway. Is this all setting him up for a Lost in Translation-type rendezvous with a unfulfilled newlywed wasting away a vacation in Tokyo?
Probably not, but we can dream.
