VIDEO: Erik Compton Holes-Out For Eagle At AT&T National On Thursday

Erik Compton garnered shot of the day honors following his hole-out for eagle during the first round of the AT&T National at Aronomick Golf Club. Compton was right on target from 105 yards out, watching as his ball hopped twice, hit the flagstick and dropped for an eagle two. While the shot was nice, Compton’s story of overcoming adversity is far better.

First, here’s video of Compton’s shot, courtesy of the PGA Tour.

Compton isn’t just any golfer. As a child, he was diagnosed with viral cardiomyopathy, a condition that prevents the heart from pumping as it normally should. Compton is a two-time heart transplant patient, the latest of which came in 2008.

His shot on Friday capped a whirlwind week of golf for the 31-year-old. Last week, Compton won the Mexican Open, his first win on the PGA or Nationwide Tour. This week, he’s in Pennsylvania at Aronimink Golf Club for TIiger Woods’ tournament. Though he may not make the cut, his shot on Friday is one to remember.
