Rory McIlroy To TV Analyst: ‘Shut Up, Failed Golfer’

Heavy is the head that wears the crown. And if Rory McIlroy truly is the heir apparent to the game of golf, then he’s probably gonna want to get used to being criticized. It’s going to happen on TV. It’s going to happen on radio. And I think we can all agree it’s going to happen on Twitter.

Golf Channel European Tour analyst Jay Townsend had some thoughts on the way McIlroy finished his first round of the Irish Open with a double bogey and voiced his concerns on Twitter. And that’s when things got chippy...

Townsend: Some of the worst course management I have ever seen beyond under 10’s boys golf competition

McIlroy: shut up.... You’re a commentator and a failed golfer, your opinion means nothing!

Townsend: Sorry, but I stand by my comments

McIlroy: well, I stand by my caddie

Townsend: As you should, I respect that
