Colin Montgomerie Doesn’t Like Golfers Jumping Into Lakes

French golfer Thomas Levet injured himself while celebrating a tournament in France last weekend, and as a result, he’s going to miss the 2011 British Open. How exactly did he get hurt?

By jumping into a lake.

And Colin Montgomerie, Levet’s one-time teammate in the Ryder Cup, is disgusted.

Disgusted.

From ESPN:

“I think it’s the silliest thing that players have done over the years, I really do. I’ve always been suspect about people diving into lakes (who) don’t know how deep it is and what’s in there.”

Yes, never smart to dive into a lake without knowing what’s in there. There could be snakes!

“There could be a spike in there, whatever.”

...Or spikes! But, bottom line:

“It’s not the way to celebrate and let’s hope that’s the last time that ever happens. It’s not the way to celebrate a golf tournament win by taking the next three months off because you’ve hurt yourself.”

Yes, it’s definitely not the way Levet planned it. But while the execution may have left him laid up for a few months, the idea for the celebration remains kind of great. Because if you can’t appreciate a golfer making a fool of himself and jumping into a lake, what can you appreciate?

The only more entertaining is the golfer who takes it upon himself to explain why diving into water hazards at a golf tournament isn’t always a safe way to celebrate. Thanks, Dad!
