Ben Crane really likes Sea Island, the site of this week’s McGladrey Classic. Crane likes it so much that he is willing to play in the event despite still recovering from a major back injury earlier in the year.
McGladrey Classic 2012: Ben Crane really likes Sea Island
After capturing the 2011 McGladrey Classic for his fourth win on the PGA Tour, Ben Crane has struggled with an array of back injuries. This week he hopes to get back on track at one of his favorite courses.

In 2011, Crane captured his fourth PGA Tour career victory at the McGladrey Classic in impressive fashion. He rode a red-hot putter in the final round to come back over his final seven holes to overtake Webb Simpson for the title. His wife gave birth to the couple’s second daughter the very next day, adding to Crane’s unbelievable week.
Shortly thereafter, Crane suffered a back injury in early 2012 that has left him unable to compete for most of the year.
Fast-forward to present day, Crane returns to Sea Island with new expectations ... and hey, his wife is pregnant again, too. I guess the back injury couldn’t have been that bad.
“It’s just fun to be back,” Crane told reporters on Wednesday while preparing for Thursday’s opening round. “This has obviously turned into a really special place.
"The birth of my daughter just a day away, turned out to be just hours after I left here, was something I'll never forget. Actually today is her first birthday, so that's kind of cool."
Crane recollected his victory last year shortly after his practice round earlier in the week.
"Certainly playing the back nine today I was kind of reminiscing about the last time I was here," Crane smiled.
"Everything just starts to flow together, and you just kind of get in that real comfortable place," he said of his storming finish at the Seaside Course last year.
"It's a sweet feeling and something that is very elusive because it's just hard to get back to that place."
Crane’s wife is due to give birth to yet another daughter in two weeks, which again adds a highlight to this time of the year for his family.
