The first round of the 2012 McGladrey Classic is in the books, and there is a two-way tie for the lead. Bud Cauley and Marco Dawson each finished the first round at eight-under and are two strokes up on the rest of the pack.

The first round of the McGladrey Classic wrapped up on Thursday, and Bud Cauley is tied with Marco Dawson for the lead.


After finishing his front nine at two-under, Cauley came on strong, shooting a six-under 29 on his final nine holes. Cauley birdied five of his first six holes on the back nine. He finished with eight birdies an no bogeys on Thursday. Dawson actually birdied one more hole than Cauley but also dropped one shot with a bogey.
There are a few notable names near the top of the leaderboard, including Zach Johnson, who is tied for sixth place at five-under. Johnson’s Ryder Cup teammate, Jim Furyk, played well in the first round, shooting a four-under 66. Vijay Singh is also at four-under after the first round.
Scores went low in the first round, as 99 of the 132 players in the field shot even-par or better.
