At 6-under through three rounds, Tommy Gainey began Sunday’s final round of the 2012 McGladrey Classic seven strokes behind the leader. A 10-under round of 60 on Sunday propelled Gainey up the leaderboard and to a shocking one-stroke victory.

After beginning the day in 29th place, Tommy Gainey shot a 60 in the final round to win the 2012 McGladrey Classic.

Gainey started the round off well, shooting a 4-under 31 on the front nine, but at 10-under overall, he was still a few strokes out of contention. After a birdie at the 11th hole, Gainey caught fire. He birdied both the 13th and 14th holes before moving to 9-under on the day with an eagle at the 15th. He followed that up with another birdie at the 16th hole to move to 16-under overall.
He finished the round with two pars and his 16-under proved to be enough for the win. David Toms also made a strong charge up the leaderboard, finishing in second place at 15-under after shooting a 7-under 63 on Sunday. Jim Furyk began the day with the lead at 13-under, but was unable to get much going as he shot a 1-under 69 on Sunday to finish in third place.
Sunday’s victory was the first PGA Tour win of Gainey’s career.
