Nick Watney shot a course-record 61 in the final round to win the 2012 CIMB Classic in Kuala Lumpur. Watney had 11 birdies in the first 17 holes in the final round before he played it safe with a bogey on 18th to secure the $1.3 million first-place prize. This was Watney’s first win in Asia. He has secured five other PGA tour titles in his career.

Watney set a course record at 10-under to win the 2012 CIMB Classic.


Watney, a 31-year-old American, finished one-shot ahead of Robert Garrigus and Bo Van Pelt and three shots ahead of Tigers Woods who finished tied for fourth-place with Brendon de Jonge and Chris Kirk. Woods opened the final round with five birdies on the first seven holes but was unable to catch Watney.
Watney birdied three straight holes starting at 11 to tie for first-place after 13 and take the outright lead after 14 holes. Watney shot rounds of 71, 65, 65 and 61 for a total of 262.
