Turkish Airlines World Golf Final 2012 preview: Tiger Woods, Rory McIlroy headline field

Eight of the world’s top 30 golfers compete in match play this week.

The 2012 Turkish Airlines World Golf Final is a match-play event that features just eight golfers, but the field includes several high-profile players. Rory McIlroy, Tiger Woods, Justin Rose, Lee Westwood, Matt Kuchar, Webb Simpson, Hunter Mahan and Charl Schwartzel are the participants.

McIlroy and Woods are first and second in the latest World Golf Ranking, while Westwood and Rose rank fourth and fifth. Simpson, Kuchar and Mahan rank in the top 20, and Schwartzel is No. 30.

Festivities get underway on Monday with a practice day, and competition begins on Tuesday. The matches will continue throughout the week, culminating in the championship match on Friday.

The schedule:

Oct. 8 -- Practice day
Oct. 9 -- First tour games (18-hole stroke play)
Oct. 10 -- Quarterfinals
Oct. 11 -- Semifinals
Oct. 12 -- Final

The winner of the tournament will earn $1.5 million, with the runner-up receiving $1 million. No participant will earn less than $300,000.
