World Golf Rankings 2012: Rory McIlroy increases lead after victory in Dubai

Rory McIlroy’s victory in Dubai over the weekend put more distance between him and the field in the World Golf Rankings.

Rory McIlroy increased his lead in the World Gold Rankings thanks to his comeback victory over the weekend at the DP World Tour Championship in Dubai. The win ends an incredible season that saw McIlroy win the PGA Championship as well as the PGA and European Tour money titles.

McIlroy fired a final round 66 on Sunday to finish at -23, making five straight birdies to close the day to overtake Justin Rose, who shot a 62 and finished at -21. With the strong performance, Rose moved up to No. 4 in the rankings from No. 7.

Luke Donald finished tied for third place and jumped over the idle Tiger Woods to No. 2 in the rankings. Louis Oosthuizen came in fifth, but dropped one spot to No. 7. Lee Westwood finished well off the pace at -4 and dropped two spots to No. 6
