The first round of the 2012 World Challenge has wrapped up after a busy day of action on the course. A couple of golfers moved out to an early lead, but it was Nick Watney who established himself on the back nine to finish his day at 5-under par.
2012 World Challenge scores: Nick Watney leads; Tiger Woods in the hunt
The first round of the World Challenge has wrapped up, and Nick Watney leads after 18 holes.

Watney birdied five of his final 10 holes after a slow start to the day. He will enter Friday holding a two-stroke lead over the field. Keegan Bradley, Graeme McDowell and Jim Furyk are all currently tied for second place at -3. Bradley led for most of the round until late, and a bogey on the 18th hole cost him any chance he had at a tie atop the leaderboard. McDowell converted on two birdies on the final two holes to wrap up a solid effort.
Tiger Woods shot 2-under par in the first round. He is currently tied with Bo Van Pelt and Webb Simpson for fifth place. Woods shot par through the first nine holes, but birdies on 11 and 13 helped move him up.
The second round is scheduled to begin on Friday morning at Sherwood Country Club in Thousand Oaks, Calif.
