Mike Davis writes open letter to USGA membership
USGA executive director Mike Davis had an eventful year in 2012. Earlier this week he penned an open letter to association members reflecting on the season.
Earlier this week, Davis penned an open letter to the USGA membership reflecting on his year.
Davis opened the letter by addressing the various championships conducted by the USGA this year, including Webb Simpson’s US Open win at the Olympic Club and Steven Fox’s victory at the US Amateur. Davis then discussed the association’s Tee it Forward campaign which encourages golfers to reconsider the teeboxes they play during a round.
Davis then briefly touched on some of the year’s biggest stories in golf, including the anchored stroke ban which he described as “an effort to preserve the traditional character of the golf swing and the challenge of the game.”
Finally, Davis discussed the worrisome water shortage many golf courses are experiencing across the country. Davis considers the issue “one of the game’s biggest challenges” and will begin working with industry experts to address the problem beginning in 2013.
