Northern Trust Open 2012: Phil Mickelson, Keegan Bradley On Top Going Into Sunday

After jumping out to a big lead in the first round and shooting one-under in the second, Phil Mickelson has allowed the field, specifically Keegan Bradley, to catch up to him in the Northern Trust Open. Lefty shot a 70 for the second straight day to move to -7 and Bradley fired a five-under 66 to tie him atop the leaderboard.

The rest of the race has tightened up considerably, too. Behind Mickelson and Bradley are Pat Perez, Jonathan Byrd and Bryce Molder, who also shot a 66 Saturday, at -6 and the always dangerous Dustin Johnson, among others, lurking at -5.

Some Friday contenders dropped off precipitously on Saturday, like Matt Kuchar, who was just two strokes off Mickelson but shot a +4 and now sits seven strokes behind and pretty much out of the race. Carl Pettersson was knotted with Kuchar, but he dropped five strokes and sits at +1 for the tournament.

Mickelson is coming off a nice win at Pebble Beach in his last tournament, and this is another stacked field he finds himself on top of. If he keeps this up for an extended stretch, he might be taking home multiple majors this year.
