Mayakoba Golf Classic 2012: John Huh Defeats Robert Allenby After 8-Hole Playoff

It took 80 holes in total, but John Huh finally won the 2012 Mayakoba Golf Classic. He led all golfers with a tournament-high 8-under through regulation on Day 4, moving up eight spots from the beginning of the day to tie Robert Allenby and force a sudden death playoff. The players went stroke-for-stroke, alternating pars on the holes 10 and 18 until Allenby finally bogeyed in the eighth round to give Huh the win.

Allenby performed a comeback of his own on Sunday, shooting 6-under in regulation to move up three spots and take a share atop the leaderboard. Daniel Summerhays was in pole position entering the day, but he bogeyed five times on the front nine to finish at plus-2 on the day and at minus-10 for the tournament, good for a four-way tie for fifth place.

Matt Every and Colt Knost finished behind Huh and Allenby at 11-under for the tournament. Both shot 5-under on the day to move up four spots on the leaderboard.
