On Thursday, the 2012 Shell Houston Open’s first round got underway. A good portion of the field of 144 golfers were able to get their rounds completed before the rain began to fall and play was suspended.

On Thursday afternoon, the official PGA Tour Twitter feed relayed the information that the day’s play would be suspended due to weather. Play will resume on Friday at 7:30 a.m. local time and the remaining golfers will complete their first round.

About 30 golfers have not yet teed off, while a healthy number of others are still in the middle of their opening round. Phil Mickelson, for example, is only on the third hole and is currently 1-under. Charl Schwartzel is in the same position.

Atop the leaderboard, both having completed their rounds, are Carl Pettersson and Angel Cabrera, both at 7-under. Jim Herman is in a good position to catch them when play resumes, as he is tied with two others at 6-under, but is only on the 15th hole, while Jeff Maggert and Ricky Barnes have finished their full 18.
