2012 RBC Heritage: Luke Donald Continues To Struggle
Despite a win earlier this year at the 2012 Transitions Championship, World No. 1 Luke Donald continues to struggle this season. Unfortunately, the story remains the same heading into the weekend at the RBC Heritage.

Oh yeah, Luke Donald is still on top of the Official World Golf Rankings list -- but he certainly hasn’t been playing like it the last two weeks. As the PGA TOUR continues with the 2012 RBC Heritage Classic in South Carolina this week, the struggling Donald is well down the leaderboard after recording an opening-round 75 on Thursday.
The veteran Englishman did make a move in the right direction in Friday’s second round, however, posting a 69 to move to 1-under-par for the tournament. He’ll need to do more of the same Saturday if he hopes to maintain his OWGR No. 1 ranking for another week.
Donald also struggled last week at The Masters, finishing at 3-over-par after his 72 holes. In order to keep his current position at the top of the OWGR list this week, Donald will need to finish eighth or better at the RBC Heritage ... something that has become quite the challenge for him as of late.
Donald’s current struggles come as a bit of a surprise after having won the 2012 Transitions Championship last month. That win helped secure the No. 1 spot for Donald after he had previously lost his OWGR position to Northern Ireland’s Rory McIlory the week before.
2011 marked Donald’s best year on both the PGA and European Tours, punctuated by his ability to capture both tours’ money list titles for the first time in history. Since that time, however, Donald continues to struggle on what appears to be a weekly basis, thus putting his world-ranking in jeopardy.
