Masters Scores And Results: Lee Westwood Leads After Round One

In the quest for his first major championship, Lee Westwood birdied four consecutive holes on the front nine, firing an five-under 67 to lead after the opening round of the 2012 Masters Tournament at Augusta National Golf Club in Augusta, Ga.

Westwood has a one-shot lead over South Africa’s Louis Oosthuizen, who finished with back-to-back birdies on No. 17 and No. 18, and Sweden’s Peter Hanson. Americans Ben Crane, Jason Dufner and Bubba Watson are among six golfers who shot three-under 69s on Thursday. That group also includes Paul Lawrie, Miguel Angel Jimenez and Francesco Molinari.

Tournament favorite Tiger Woods is tied for 29th at even par after bogeying the final two holes of his first round. Rory McIlroy’s round got off to a rocky start with a double bogey on No. 1 before clawing back to 1-under through nine holes. Bogeys on No. 11 and No. 13 were offset by birdies on No. 17 and No. 18 to finish the round at even par.

Three-time winner Phil Mickelson struggled on Thursday, finishing the front nine at 1-over and triple-bogeying No. 10 to stand at 4-over entering No. 11. Mickelson finished strong, however, birdieing three of the final holes to finish his round with a 2-over 74.
