2012 Masters Cut Line: Tom Watson Finishes At 7-Over, Will Miss The Weekend

Tom Watson gave it a good run at the 2012 Masters, but came up just short down the stretch. Watson wasn’t in contention, however -- he spent Friday battling against the cut line, hoping to make it to the weekend. And for much of the day, he was in a good spot, just on the right side of the projected cut, safe but not out of the woods. That is, until the 17th hole.

The cut will be no lower than 5-over, that much we know. It could move to 4-over if Miguel Angel Jimenez makes a run to end his round, taking sole possession of the lead in the process. But anyone in the clubhouse at 6-over or worse will be headed home.

And Watson is among those at 7-over, ending his hopes of playing in the weekend. After a bogey on 17, Watson found himself on the wrong side of the cut, but still had a chance to make it up on the difficult 18th. He left his approach right of the green however, needing to drain his pitch to survive.

The pitch never got close, ending Watson’s tournament. He finished up with a bogey to end his day at 7-over. Still, it was one heck of a run for Watson, who is always fun to watch at The Masters.
