VIDEO: Kevin Na Having Tee Troubles, Scared To Swing

Kevin Na is playing well this week and holds the 54-hole lead at The Players Championship, which makes this even more weird. On Saturday, he was put on the clock, a product of his slow play. It’s not like he was just taking his sweet time for no reason, though; Na has hit a mental block, especially off the tee.

This is a common thing in golf, but it usually accompanies a period of poor play. The mind starts to play tricks on the player, and swinging becomes incredibly difficult. Not necessarily the physical act, mind you. The mental aspect of it all. It’s like being stuck.

And so there Na was on the 14th tee, waggling away and even whiffing (on purpose).

It’s almost tough to watch, and Na isn’t exactly oblivious to what he’s doing. He just can’t help it. And he knows he’s struggling with pulling the trigger.

But the video above was probably the worst he’s been. That was a ridiculous number of waggles, one whiff on purpose, one backswing and a frustrated groan.

And he’s still playing very well and leading the tournament.
