The morning wave of tee times at the Byron Nelson have completed their second round on Friday, and there’s currently a five-way tie atop the leaderboard. All five golfers are Americans, led by Matt Kuchar who turned in a second round 68 at the TPC at Four Seasons just outside Dallas. Last week’s Players Champion got off to a terrible start, going off No. 10 tee and playing holes 12 through 15 at four over par. But Kuchar rallied with an inward 31 to rebound and tie for the clubhouse lead at 6-under.
Byron Nelson Championship 2012: Matt Kuchar, 4 Others Tied Atop Leaderboard
Two of the other four American golfers tied with Kuchar are Texas natives Ryan Palmer and Chad Campbell. Both have experienced success on Tour, but Campbell has never fully lived up to the lofty expectations many placed on him. His second round 66 shot him up the leaderboard, playing a bogey free 18 holes. Palmer, on the other hand, simply held the line and shot an even-par 70 to follow up on his lights-out 64 on Thursday. Dickey Pride and Pat Perez round out the group of five in first place.
Just one shot back is another American, Keegan Bradley, who got his first Tour win here in 2011. Bradley had a roller-coaster second round 68 that featured six birdies. This is obviously a course that suits him well, so there’s a good chance we could have either a back-to-back winner at the Byron Nelson or a back-to-back winner on Tour, as Kuchar goes for two in a row.
