During a week when rising temperatures caused many players to fall out of contention toward the final round, Joe Daley held strong to capture the 2012 Senior Players Championship and his first win on the Champions Tour.

Winless during his PGA Tour career and in 10 previous Champions Tour events, Joe Daley finally gets a taste of victory at the 2012 Senior Players Championship.

Daley, 51, was winless during his career on the PGA Tour but has finally found the winner’s circle after making the jump to the senior circuit. After firing a 14-under total of 266 to win at Fox Chapel this week, he’ll be enjoying the Champions Tour for at least one more full calendar year.
Fred Couples was leading the tournament early on in the week, however his continued back ailments proved to be too much for the tour veteran by the weekend as he slowly fell out of contention. Tom Lehman, who is by no means a stranger to victory on either the PGA or Champions Tour and was looking to win his second straight major, finished alone in second-place after shooting a final round 69. Olin Browne finished solo-third after recording an impressive 65 in his final round.
As a player struggling to make a name for himself on the PGA Tour, Daley may have been best known for failing to earn his tour card after missing a short putt on his final hole during Q-School in 2000.
Prior to winning this week, Daley’s best finish on tour was fourth place in ten previous events. Following this week’s victory and ability to maintain his status on tour, Daley will certainly have the momentum to add more titles to his resume as one of the youngest players among his peers.
