British Open 2012 Leaderboard: Luke Donald Shoots 68, Protecting World Ranking

Official World Golf Ranking top golfer Luke Donald is playing for a bit more than the Claret Jug this week at the 2012 British Open; he’s also doing his best to protect his No. 1 ranking atop that prestigous list.

Donald’s second round of 68 helped move him up the leaderboard and into the top-10 for the tournament on Friday morning. He recorded five birdies to go along with three bogies during his up-and-down round, and he now finds himself at 2-under par, eight shots behind second round leader Brandt Snedecker (10-under).

If Donald finishes outside of the top 30 golfers this week and Tiger Woods finds a way to win major number 15, Woods will surpass Donald on the OWGR list and regain the top spot for the first time in over three years. Regardless, Woods has a chance to move up in the rankings should he finish better than Donald, Westwood or McIlroy this week at Royal Lytham.
