2012 British Open: Results And Scores For Friday’s Second Round

Brandt Snedeker matched Adam Scott’s record-tying feat on Friday at the 2012 British Open, and Scott nearly kept up with Snedeker. But Tiger Woods’ brilliant birdie on his 36th hole means he will be the talk of the tournament heading into the weekend at the Open Championship.

Snedeker tied the Royal Lytham & St. Annes course record that Scott tied on Thursday with his 6-under 64 on Friday, and moved to 10-under for the tournament and a one-shot lead. Snedeker has yet to make a bogey in two days on the course, and has 10 birdies.

Scott, who shot a 64 on Thursday, followed it with a 3-under 67 on Friday, thanks in part to three back nine birdies. He’s at 9-under for the Open.

Woods’ chip-in birdie on No. 18, by contrast, only got him to within four strokes of Snedeker. But consecutive 67s by Tiger have him at 6-under entering the weekend, and in sole possession of third place — more than enough reason to wonder if he won’t finally come from behind in a major.

Thorbjorn Olesen is one shot back of Tiger, at 5-under, after a Friday 66, and five golfers, including British Open champ Paul Lawrie and U.S. Open champion Graeme McDowell, are tied for fifth at 4-under through two days.

The cut line fell at 3-over, eliminating Phil Mickelson, defending champion Darren Clarke, Y.E. Yang, Charl Schwartzel, Martin Kaymer, and both of Woods’ playing partners from the first two rounds, Justin Rose and Sergio Garcia.
