British Open 2012: Tiger Woods Shoots 70, Alone In Fourth

On what turned out to be a rather disappointing day during his third round of the 2012 British Open, Tiger Woods managed an even-par round of 70 to stay at 6-under for the tournament and alone in fourth place.

Woods’ round started off on a shaky note, recording bogies on his first and third holes of the day to quickly fall to 4-under on the leaderboard. After making a huge putt for birdie on his sixth hole, Tiger battled back with birdies on No. 7 and No. 9 to go out in 33 and very much in contention for the title. Tiger’s struggles continued on the back nine at Royal Lytham, however, once again shooting 1-over par to fall back to even on the day.

Woods continues to play safely on most of the holes, sticking to a gameplan he established prior to the tournament. While he has managed to hit 88 percent of his fairways, Woods will need to play more aggressively Sunday if he hopes to win major number 15.

Update: Tiger Woods nearly entered the final round in a tie for third place but slipped to fourth when Brandt Snedeker birdied on No. 18, which moved him into a tie for second place. Snedeker began Sunday in the lead but fell back after notching six bogies in a 10-hole span.
