2012 Greenbrier Classic: Maggert Holding Strong, Stricker And Simpson Make Charge

The opening round of the 2012 Greenbrier Classic in West Virginia is in full swing Thursday, and PGA Tour veteran Jeff Maggert maintains his one-shot lead over the field at 4-under par.

Despite starting the day on a hot note with two birdies in his first three holes, Tiger Woods has fallen back to 1-over par for the tournament after recording a double-bogey on No. 17 at Greenbrier and his eighth hole of the day. His two playing partners -- Steve Stricker and U.S. Open champ Webb Simpson -- are singing a different tune, however, as they are now 3-under par for the tournament and one-shot behind Maggert.

Simpson has four birdies on the day already and would be tied for the tournament lead had it not been for a bogey on his sixth hole of the day at No. 15. Stricker has remained steady throughout his front-nine, recording three birdies and five par’s thusfar.
