Wyndham Championship 2012: Carl Pettersson, David Mathis Lead First Round

The first round of the 2012 Wyndham Championship is wrapping up, and it’s Carl Pettersson who sits atop the leaderboard as the final few golfers finished their opening round on Thursday. Pettersson, who was in contention throughout last week’s PGA Championship, continued his strong play by shooting an opening-round 62 on Thursday to lead the tournament at 8-under.

David Mathis sits in second place after shooting a 63 to head in one stroke back of Pettersson. Tom Gillis, Tim Clark and Scott Stallings are all tied for third at 6-under with two more holes left to play.

Among the more notable golfers in the field, Stuart Appleby is 5-under through 14 holes and is making a move toward the top of the leaderboard. He’s currently tied with two others for sixth place.
