Wyndham Championship 2012: Sergio Garcia Captures First Title In Four Years

On a day that has esclated into an important news day for the game of golf, Sergio Garcia has captured his first PGA Tour title in over four years by winning the 2012 Wyndham Championship by two-shots over the field.

Garcia rode a hot putter all tournament - which filtered over into Monday after play was suspended late Sunday afternoon in the final round - en route to an impressive 18-under par final score. His nearest competition came from Tim Clark (16-under), who had tied Garcia for the lead early on the back nine but failed to maintain his momentum. By the time players reached no. 18, Garcia had a three-shot cushion and still managed the victory despite making a bogey on the final hole.

Garcia’s last win came at the 2008 Players Championship where he narrowly defeated Paul Goydos in extra holes. His victory Monday will all but solidify his position in the FedEx Cup Playoffs as well, which opens later this week at The Barclays at Bethpage Black in New York.
