PGA Championship 2012 Preview: Will Golf’s Parity Continue?

The last 16 majors have had 16 different champions, the longest streak since the Masters began in 1934.

The final major of the 2012 season begins this Thursday, as the best golfers in the world tee off at the PGA Championship, which will be played at the Ocean Course on Kiawah Island, S.C.

And if recent history is any indication, there’s no real way to know which golfer will come out on top on Sunday. The last 16 majors have had 16 different winners, the longest stretch without a repeat champion in the history of the modern golf calendar.

An ugly meltdown from Adam Scott at the British Open gave Ernie Els his first major win since 2007, while Webb Simpson won the U.S. Open watching in the clubhouse.

The big story, as usual, will be the play of Tiger Woods, who has come tantalizingly close to breaking his major-less streak and seems to be returning to the dominant form he displayed for most of the last decade.
