The Tour Championship 2012: Jim Furyk Leads, Rory McIlroy Has FedEx Cup Inside Track

Jim Furyk is on top after the second round of the 2012 Tour Championship. Furyk piled up nine birdies (including six on the front nine) to post a 6-under round of 64 and move to a score of 7-under-par.

Tiger Woods did not have a good round, posting five bogeys and a double to push him to a second round 73. Woods finished in a tie for 12th and is way down the leaderboard.

With regards to the FedEx Cup, Rory McIlroy has to feel pretty comfortable in a tie for 7th, posting his second straight round under 70 to stick at 3-under par. McIlroy was really boosted by an eagle on 15 to propel him up to the top 10 on the leaderboard.

McIlroy probably needs only to maintain steady play and finish in the upper echelon of performers, as all his nearest competitors in the FedEx Cup (Woods, Phil Mickelson, Brandt Snedeker and Nick Watney) are trailing him on the leaderboard. If McIlroy can stay ahead of them, he will undoubtedly hold on and win his first FedEx Cup.
