The 2012 Ryder Cup got underway Friday morning with the foursome match between Americans Phil Mickelson and Keegan Bradley and Europeans Luke Donald and Sergio Garcia the first to conclude. And after a back and forth battle it was the Americans earning the win 4 & 3, giving the United States the early 1-0 lead in the tournament.

Phil Mickelson and Keegan Bradley are the first winners at the 2012 Ryder Cup, taking out Luke Donald and Sergio Garcia 4 & 3 in their opening foursome match.


The American team won the second hole to move one up, but dropped back-to-back holes on five and six to fall one behind. They would battle back to take the ninth hole to move the match back to all square. Mickelson and Bradley would close the door after winning No. 12-14 to finish of Donald and Garcia and give the United States their first points at Medinah Country Club outside of Chicago.
There are three more foursome matches currently on the course, with American Jason Dufner and Zach Johnson leading Europeans Lee Westwood and Francesco Molinari one up through 13 holes, while Tiger Woods and Steve Stricker are currently 2 down to Justin Rose and Ian Poulter through 11 holes on the day. Jim Furyk and Brandt Snedeker are all square with Rory McIlroy and Graeme McDowell through 16 holes.
